Sleep Experts Reveal What To Do If You Wake Up In the Middle Of The Night

According to data from the CDC in 2020, more than 17% of adults have trouble staying asleep. There are multiple reasons you might wake up in the middle of the night including: sleep disorders, stress, anxiety, pain or discomfort, and environmental factors like noise, movement or temperature.

So if you wake up in the middle of the night, what should you do?

Sleep experts say you should stay in bed and try to relax to see if you can go back to sleep. If after 10 or 15 minutes you can't fall back asleep , Dr. Biquan Luo, a San Francisco sleep expert said, "it’s time to get out of bed."

Dr. Luo suggests doing a calming and quiet activity, like reading, until you feel sleepy again and then return to bed.
