Why We Should Be Kissing More, According to Science

In case you need one more reason to kiss someone, you'll be happy to know that kissing is good for you and science says you should be kissing MORE. Not only will it bring you and your partner closer, but it's good for you mentally & physically.

Award-winning science communicator Emer Maguire says, quote,

‘During a kiss, this lip sensitivity causes our brain to create a chemical cocktail that can give us a natural high. This cocktail is made up of three chemicals, all designed to make us feel good and crave more: dopamine, oxytocin, and serotonin.’

This cocktail hits the pleasure centers of the brain-- similar to cocaine or heroin-- and can be addictive.

Kissing can:

  • helps us destress by reducing cortisol level
  • boosts our immune system- about 80 million bacteria are swapped during a 10 second kiss which is great for your immunity.
  • help you pick the right partner.
  • reignite that spark
