Marilyn Monroe's Estate Ok With Kim Kardashian Wearing Her Dress

Kim Kardashian is getting some backlash for wearing Marilyn Monroe's iconic dress to the Met Gala. Several experts thought that Marilyn should’ve been the only one to wear it.

However, a representative from Orlando’s Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Museum said, quote, “This was no easy decision for Ripley’s, however, Kim Kardashian has continued to show the utmost respect for this opportunity and historic garment. From extensive research to following guidelines such as no body makeup, only wearing the dress for the short red-carpet appearance, and making absolutely no alterations, she has become a steward — and added to — its history.”

And now Marilyn's Estate is speaking out and are giving their seal of approval!

They're basically saying there's no better person to wear the dress again and they see a lot of similarities between Marilyn and Kim like they're strong, powerful and independent entrepreneurs who love to be in front of the camera.

Kim did not run this by the estate, but the dress technically belongs to Ripley's Believer It Or Not Museum. The Estate says Kim went through the proper channels to wear it. Even if she did ask for permission, the company that runs Marilyn's Estate would've given it to her. They say they believe Marilyn would've been thrilled to se Kim rocking her legendary gown to the Met Gala.

Some other information about Kim Wearing the dress:

  • She ONLY wore the dress on the red carpet. (she changed into it at the beginning of the carpet and out of it at the end).
  • She lost 16 lbs to fit in the dress, but it didn't totally fit over her backside, so they left the back of the dress partially open and used a fur coat to cover it. After she was done walking the red carpet, she immediately changed into a better fitting replica.
  • The Museum also gifted Kim a Lock of Marilyn's hair.
  • Kim made two donations to organizations in Orlando on the museum's behalf instead of paying to "rent" the dress.
