Starbucks Has Put A Limit On Drink Modifications

If you’re usual Starbucks order is a latte with 15 espresso shots or 25 pumps of caramel syrup, you’ve probably already noticed that the coffee chain has made a change recently. Starbucks has updated its app to prevent customers from adding the same “modifier” - including syrup, purée, scoops of fruit, or espresso shots - more than 12 times.

It’s a change that won’t affect too many customers, because most of us don’t order drinks with massive amounts of a single ingredient. But those who used to enjoy getting ultra specific about 25 pumps of vanilla syrup or 16 Stevias in your drink using the app to order will likely miss that luxury. The new rule is definitely barista-approved, because they often get asked to make complicated orders from a “secret menu” of drinks customers invent.

"I think it will help when it comes to mobile orders," one Starbucks employee tells Business Insider. "People seem to be as extra as they possibly can be through the app because they don't have to sound stupid asking us for all the mods."

So now if you absolutely must have 20 pumps of white mocha in your coffee, you can get it, but you’ll have to ask the barista for it face-to-face.
