Real Love Lessons From "The Bachelor"

As far as lasting love goes, “The Bachelor” and “The Bachelorette” may not be the best place to find it, since pretty much every relationship from the shows has ended a few months later. But the shows do keep us entertained and after watching 38 seasons of people dating and starting romances, we’ve learned some things that can actually be applied to dating in real life. Here are real love lessons we can use from these hit shows.

  • When you’re just starting to date someone, put yourself first- Remember when three women walked out onColton Underwood’s season because they felt like they weren’t getting enough attention or things just weren’t right? They put their needs first and you should too.
  • Other women aren’t your enemies- Society sends us the message that women who are interested in the same guy must be enemies, but “The Bachelor” shows that doesn’t have to be true. Some of the women who don’t win leave with new friends and that may be the real prize.
  • You’ve gotta go with your gut- When Cassie Randolph rejected Colton, it was not the usual finale we see on “The Bachelor,” but it shows you’ve got to follow your feelings.
  • There will be tears- It seems there’s always someone crying in the trailers for “The Bachelor” and “The Bachelorette,” and while we’d rather not have an ugly cry that will be seen my millions of people, it’s important to let your emotions out.
  • Drink in moderation on a first date- This is basic stuff, but some folks need a reminder. No one wants to be THAT girl, it’s not a good look whether you’re on a show or not.
  • Maybe don’t date on TV- If you’re really looking for real love, going on “The Bachelor” and “The Bachelorette” probably isn’t the best way to find it.
