It’s hard being a kid, especially since many don’t have the highest self-esteem but apparently a lot of parents think their kids are actually doing pretty okay in that area. A survey by Kiddie Academy Educational Child Care finds that 80% of parents believe their child is proud of who they are, with 60% of parents noting the definition of pride as "having confidence and self-respect.”
As for parents being proud of their kids, 34% say they feel most proud of their kids when they see them happy, while more than half will express that pride with physical affection, and 40% will do so through affirmations and words of encouragement.
One thing parents don’t think is necessary is rewards. Only 5% of parents think physical rewards like money or presents teach pride. And forget about awarding everyone for participating. It seems 72% of parents don’t think kids should get a medal or trophy at a sporting event if they didn’t win.
- ONE MORE THING!It seems most parents are perfectly okay with their kids doing an activity that may be out of the ordinary. In fact, 93% of parents say they are comfortable encouraging their kids to take part in an activity they love even if it doesn’t comply with social norms.
