Avoid Cyber Monday Fraud

Here's some ways to not get scammed while you shop today.

Check it before you click it: Clever misspellings or lookalike sites can trick busy shoppers—like a Macy’s website that’s spelled www.maceys.com - can scam you. Double check that the URL you’re clicking. Also? Look for that handy green lock in the upper left, which shows the site you're on is secure.

Don’t click on ads: Sometime hackers target flashy Flash ads, embedding them with nasty malware to compromise your identity.

Patch it up!: Before you shop, make sure the software on your computer is completely up-to-date...security patches and everything.

Shop on familiar, secure sites: “A good rule of thumb is to always look for an “S” in the URL because a website with a URL that starts with “https” indicates a safe and secure site,” according to experts.

Don’t Use a Debit Card: This may be tough for some, but consumers should avoid using their debit card for online purchases. Why? Under the Fair Credit Billing Act, a debit card will not be reimbursed if it has been attained and used by an online thief. Credit card fraud charges can be disputed.

Avoid Wireless Terminals and WiFi Transactions.
