What is a "Hush Trip" and Should you Take one?

Since the pandemic, a lot more people are working remotely which has lead to an increase in "hush trips."

What exactly is a "hush trip"? It's taking a vacation WHILE working remotely without letting your boss know. Basically the mindset is: "If I can do my job from home, why not do my job from somewhere else?" Workers will work like they do at home, take meetings, etc, but just not mention their exact location.

As long as you have the resources needed (secure & stable wifi, cell service, etc) to access and do your work, it doesn't seem like there would be any downfalls to taking a hush trip, right?

Not totally. Downsides include:

  • unreliable internet connectivity
  • significant time zone differences
  • if employer find out you could be risking your job
  • breaking the trust with employer

Have you taken a "hush trip"?
