A woman has taken being a bridezilla to the next level by holding an โauctionโ for potential bridesmaids to bid for a place in the wedding.
The story was posted on Reddit by the brideโs sister who said the idea was โridiculousโ but her sister and mom are now accusing her of being โselfishโ for not wanting to pay.
The 33-year-old stunned sister, who wrote under the username of SistersBridesmaid, said: โMy sister was always very spoiled by our parents since sheโs the youngest of four kids and my mom had thought she wouldnโt be able to have any more kids.โ
โDonโt get me wrong, she can be very sweet and caring too, but sheโs just a very immature high maintenance person. Basically she got engaged a couple of months ago and will be getting married at the end of August.โ
โAnyway she still hasnโt chosen her bridesmaids. Instead, she has sent out dozens ofโฆinvitations, to various girls. Itโs an invite to attend and participate in a โbidding auctionโ on the six spots in her bridal party.โ
โWhichever six of all these chicks bid the most will be the bridesmaids. Thereโs also an auction for being her maid of honor. My sister and her fiancรฉ are using the money to fund the wedding and honeymoon.โ
The baffled sister shared how most of the girls who have received a request to be in the bridesmaid bidding war are not close to the bride, who is aged 22.
And also said that the husband-to-be is rich, so the couple isnโt lacking in money.
She commented: โShe just has a really big social circle from parties and I guess she invited everyone she even vaguely knows.โ
โI just find this really awkward and tacky. Sheโs basically having people pay to be in her wedding.โ
โI told my sister they werenโt lacking for funds because itโs obvious and she just said โwell if theyโll already be bidding we figure we should put their money towards a great event for everyoneโ as though this is an act of service sheโs doing for them. Itโs totally nonsensical.โ
The sister said that she had always planned to attend the wedding but felt paying to be in the wedding was unnecessary.
However, this mentality hasnโt gone down well with the family.
SistersBridesmaid said: โNow my sister is throwing a tantrum that I havenโt RSVPed to the โauction,โ and got our mom on her side too.
โMy mom says I will โlook bad if I donโt put in a bid when itโs my own sisterโ and called me selfish.โ
The confused woman reached out for advice from the Reddit community, asking if she should cave and pay to be a bridesmaid or stick to her guns.
Many users were stunned at the bizarre story and couldnโt believe the bride-to-be had thought it was an acceptable idea.
One user commented: โIn my opinion her sister is highly manipulative. The nutters are those willing to actually pay to be in her wedding party. Why would anyone do this? I canโt wrap my brain around it.โ
Another said: โSister wants to measure how much these people โloveโ her, with actual dollar signs.โ
And another wrote: โI canโt believe other people are going along with it. Iโm getting second hand embarrassment from the whole thing.โ
