Not even cereal is safe from Pokémon card-frenzy because multiple grocery stores have reported shortages, and event thefts, of their General Mills cereals thanks to a Pokémon card promotion!
As part of Pokémon‘s 25th-anniversary celebration, a total of 14 Pokémon cards were packaged into various General Mills cereals like Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Lucky Charms, Trix, and Cocoa Puffs, but the cereal company might regret that now. A number of stores like Walmart have experienced customers buying up pallets of cereal only for the cards, or worse, opening the boxes right inside the store and stealing the cards.
In some instances, stores are combating the theft of cereal with the use of spider security wrap devices, which they normally only use for expensive electronics.
You can see some instances of scalpers being proud of their hauls, but the Pokémon card bubble might need to be popped to let us enjoy the simple things like cereal!
