Michael Polansky's proposal to Lady Gaga directly inspired one of the songs on her new album, Mayhem, which was released today!
The "Bad Romance" songstress told E!News that track 11, "Blade of Grass," is a nod to a very real moment she experienced with her fiancé ahead of their engagement. Before Polansky asked Gaga to be his wife, the "Born This Way" icon told him to wrap a blade of grass around her finger.
"He said to me, 'If I ever proposed to you, how do I do that? And I said, 'Just get a blade of grass from the backyard and wrap it around my finger.' And he did. He did that when he proposed."
The adorable duo co-wrote the song together, with the chorus capturing the intimate nature of the proposal and the blade of grass serving as a symbol of their lasting union.
"Come on and wrap that blade of grass/ Around my finger like a cast/ 'Cause even though the church burned down/ I'll be your queen without a crown/ I've been so lonely in this field/ Fightin' a battle with no shield/ Come on and wrap that blade of grass/ And we'll make it last."
As for the writing process, the star referred to creating melodic magic with Polansky as "a totally different experience" than what she's used to. Gaga also hopes to explain the meaning behind the special track to their children one day.
"That song gets to last forever and, hopefully, one day our kids will hear it," and when they do, the standout will say, "'It's so special. That's about your dad.'"
