Car Rams Into Chevy Chase Restaurant Injuring Outdoor Diners

An SUV rammed into a collection of people dining outside in Chevy Chase during lunchtime on Friday, March 11.

8 people were injured (5 critically) at the Parthenon restaurant located on the 5500 block of Connecticut Avenue in Northwest DC. The vehicle off roaded. Those 8 people were hospitalized and an additional 3 were treated on-site. All of the victims are believed to be between the ages of 30-80. The building did not suffer any damage.

DC's Fire and EMS Twitter account described the situation as a "mass casualty incident" and shared images from the scene.

During a media briefing broadcasted to the DC Police Department's Twitter account, 2D Commander Duncan Bedlion shared that authorities believe "all indications are that this was truly accidental." The driver, an elderly male, was alone and unfortunately lost control of the vehicle. Everything is currently under investigation and he is cooperating.
