Tropical Storm Elsa is expected to head up the Atlantic coast this afternoon (July 8) and with that, some significant impact could be felt in the Maryland region.
The National Weather Service has issued a Tropical Storm Warning and Flash Flood Watches in Eastern Maryland, beginning at 5:00 PM today and lasting until 8:00 AM Friday morning.
St. Mary's County has also declared a state of emergency this morning in anticipation of the storm.
The NWS is forecasting the peak of the weather system will impact the area Thursday night.
A flash flood watch was issued by the NWS for Baltimore City, and the counties of Cecil, Baltimore, Prince Georges, Anne Arundel, Charles, St. Marys and Calvert until 8:00 AM Friday.
Rain is expected to cover most of the state in varying amounts.
