I get that 90% of people were super excited about the "live action" AKA purely CGI remake of "The Lion King" but I was NOT in that 90% - basically because I knew the magic of the original was about to be shattered.
And honestly, it was. They changed too much, added and took away massive pieces of the movie and it was nowhere near what the original was - and now, Sir Elton John, who won MULTIPLE GRAMMY'S for the original soundtrack has FINALLY spoken up.
He said in British GQ: "The new version of 'The Lion King' was a huge disappointment to me, because I believe they messed the music up."
I BELIEVE HE'S CORRECT.
He went on to say, "Music was so much a part of the original and the music in the current film didn't have the same impact." He then added that he wasn't included as much as he wanted to be, which honestly, infuriates me. He added, "I wish I'd been invited to the party more...it was different this time around and I wasn't really welcomed or treated with the same level of respect. That makes me extremely sad. I'm so happy that the right spirit for the music lives on with the Lion King stage musical."
