Penny Marshall Dead at 75

Penny Marshall, adorned with the large "L" on the hit television show "Laverne & Shirley", has died. She was 75.

According to TMZ, Marshall died at her home in the Hollywood Hills due to complications from diabetes.

Although she'll be forever remembered as her character "Laverne", Marshall was also an accomplished director, responsible for the groundbreaking film "A League Of Their Own" along with "Big" starring Tom Hanks.

She had already survived two bouts of brain and lung cancer in the early 2000's. She shared birthdays with her close friend Carrie Fisher and was Billie Lourde's godmother.

Her family issued a statement regarding her passing: "Our family is heartbroken over the passing of Penny Marshall.  Penny was a tomboy who loved sports, doing puzzles of any kind, drinking milk and Pepsi together and being with her family."
