Senior U.S. State Department Officials Abruptly Exit

According to Reuters, at least four senior officials with the U.S. State Department will leave their posts Friday. Rex Tillerson was approved by the Senate Foreign Relations Committee as Secretary of State. Tillerson still faces confirmation from the full Senate.

In a statement from the State Department spokesman Mark Toner:

"Of the officers whose resignations were accepted, some will continue in the Foreign Service in other positions and others will retire by choice or because they have exceeded the time limits of their grade in service."

According to other officials, "this is not a mass protest or a show of indignation." The statement issued by the State Department says that the departing officials were asked to submit their resignations by the Obama administration in coordination with the Trump administration.
