There just might be another airport option in the DMV for commercial flights beginning next year! Manassas airport has approval from the city for the plan to bring commercial flights to the airport, but there are still certifications and construction to get done before that happens.
The idea would be to compliment the other airports in the area. Manassas airport would need to add 3 gates by next year and 2 additional ones in the future.
The plan is to open the airport in 2 phases:
- PHASE 1 would add modifications to the existing terminal and could open for service next year (2025)
- PHASE 3 would be to expand the airport with more gates and would open at the end of the following year (2026)
One of the goals of this airport would be to move through the airport quicker. The estimate is 7 minutes from curb to gate.
