If I were to ask you if you knew 'How often bottlenose dolphins come into the Chesapeake Bay?' would you be able to answer that? Or I guess a better question to ask would be, 'when was the last time you saw a dolphin in the Chesapeake Bay?

I have lived in the DMV for 17 years now (I'm 23), and I have never once seen a bottlenose dolphin in my area! That is, until I heard about this cool app developed by the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science.

The app is called 'Chesapeake Dolphin Watch' and there are so many cool features this app has! As someone who has never seen a dolphin for her own eyes, I'll be honest, I was hesitant on how credible the app would be; because dolphins and Virginia were two words I never thought I would put in a sentence together, but, yet here I am...Doing exactly that!

The app offers a section for Dolphin Watchers to upload their own pictures of dolphins from sightings they spotted using the app's navigation system. The app also gives the user the chance to view the locations of recent and past dolphin sightings on a map.

By tracking the occurrence of dolphins and their movements, we’ll gain a better understanding of how bottlenose dolphins use the Bay and how to protect them in our local waters. So if you are interested in spotting some cute dolphins while also helping scientist collect data this is the app for you!

You can click here to access the app on the apple app store!
