Winter Storm Watch Issued for DMV, Some Areas May See Up to 12" of Snow

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for the DC, Maryland and Virginia areas, starting late Wednesday night and lasting through Thursday night. The Watch was issued at approximately 3:00 PM ET on Tuesday.

Significant amounts of both snow and ice are currently being forecasted for the entire area. Some areas in the western parts of Maryland, the West Virginia panhandle, and parts of western Virginia could see as much as one foot of snowfall, according to current forecasts.

Areas east of where the highest snowfall totals are currently being expected will see less snow, but potentially significant amounts of ice accumulation. The DC and Baltimore corridor could see as much as a quarter inch of ice.

The NWS is warning that power outages and tree damage are likely due to the ice, and that travel could be nearly impossible.
