This Programmer Lost The Password To His Bitcoin Worth Over $220 Million

Many of us probably forgot a password or two during the holidays, which probably caused you to contact your IT department for a new password, but at least you're not this guy who might have lost over $200 million in Bitcoin because he can't remember his password!

San Francisco-based programmer Stefan Thomas has a special hard drive that contains a key to his digital wallet with 7,002 Bitcoin that he received 10 years ago, but he lost the password to the account a few years ago and can't remember it.

Right now Bitcoin is worth over $38,440 right now so if he were to cash out he would be sitting with over $200 million, but Thomas hasn't remembered the password and has tried eight different times to type in the right password.

The even worse part is that Thomas only has 10 attempts before his hard drive locks up forever so as of right now he has two chances left before watching millions fall through his hands.

Just let this be a reminder to always keep a post-it note of your passwords somewhere safe and memorable!
