Being in a committed relationship is great for your sex life, according to new research. A new study finds that women have better sex in with a significant other than they do with a hookup.
Researchers asked 1,084 sexually active women between 18 and 71 about sexual satisfaction, orgasms and their attitudes about monogamy. They found that women “experience greater sexual outcomes” with a committed partner compared to a one-night stand. But there’s one exception and it’s all about attitude. The study shows that women who are more open-minded and down for short-term sexual relationships are equally satisfied in the sack with both casual and committed partners.
Study author Val Wongsomboon says she got interested in this topic because she wanted to better understand the “orgasm gap” - the fact that women tend to have less of them than men. And because so many things, including psychological, physiological, and environmental factors can affect that, she wanted to better understand women’s sexual satisfaction.
But bottom line? Go for whatever gets your rocks off, whether that’s getting frisky with a stranger or your long-term love.
