Breakups are hard, but what happens if you called it quits with someone before that vacation you planned together happens? Well, one guy took to Reddit to post a question on that very subject, and the Internet is divided about what happened.
- The guy shared in the “Am I The A-Hole” forum that before breaking up with his girlfriend of two-and-a-half years they had planned a trip to Maui for her sister’s wedding, with the guy shelling out most of the money for the trip since the girlfriend couldn’t afford it.
- Then, when they broke up, he asked if he could still go on the trip, insisting he’d sleep on the couch, and stay out of her way the rest of the day. She, of course, said no, “because it was my choice to end the relationship,” and argued that he’d be ruining her sister’s wedding, even though they weren’t staying in the same hotel as the rest of the family.
- In the end, the girlfriend wound up canceling his airline ticket, and he then posed the question of whether he was indeed the “A-hole” in the situation, and surprisingly, many people didn’t think so. Some suggested he should retaliate by canceling her ticket since he paid for it, and others thought he should take her to small claims court for the money.
But there were plenty of people who thought he was in the wrong, especially since he was the one who dumped her. As one person noted, "Write the $1,700 off as a life lesson, and in the future either get travel insurance or only book if you have no plans on dumping your next girlfriend.”
