People Are Hiring Coaches To Teach Them How To Parent Without Screens

Parents know that too much screen time is bad for their kids, but some of them don’t seem to know how to limit it or function as a family without being constantly plugged in. Apparently, it’s such a common problem that it’s brought on a new trend: people are hiring screen time parenting coaches to teach them how to raise kids who aren’t constantly on their phones or iPads.

These screen consultants are offering pretty simple advice as a fix, but parents are paying around $80 an hour in rural areas and up to $250 an hour in big cities for an average of eight to 12 sessions about limiting screen time. Parenting coaches like child behavior specialist Rhonda Moskowitz say the solution is as easy as doing anything that’s not playing video games, watching TV, or scrolling through their phones. “Is there a ball somewhere? Throw the ball,” she suggests. “Do you have a plain old piece of material that can be used as a cape? Great!”

It seems it’s hard for moms and dads to remember life before smartphones and tablets or they just don’t want their kiddos to flip out when they try to shut off Fortnite. But if you’re having an issue trying to get your kids to spend less time on screens, you don’t need a pricey parenting coach to tell you to turn off your phone and go outside. Save the money and go kick a ball with your kid.
