Girl Scouts Add 30 New Badges

The Girls Scouts just introduced 30 new badges girls ages five to 18 can now earn, with many of them strong in STEM and associated with key issues of our time. New badge additions address areas like cybersecurity, environmental advocacy, mechanical engineering, robotics, computer science and even space exploration.

Northeast Thunderstorms Cause Flash Flooding, Airport Delays

The National Weather Service issued flash flood watches for areas covering nearly 30-million people, including Philadelphia, New York and Boston. According to predictions, two to four inches of rain was expected to fall.

The weather hit early in yesterday's afternoon commute, with flooding reported in Washington and New York. Over 3,700 flights were delayed and 2,145 reportedly cancelled, mostly through New York metro airports. One social media user captured video from downtown Brooklyn of a funnel cloud over the New York Harbor yesterday afternoon.

Mandalay Bay Owner Files Complaint Against Victims Of Las Vegas Shooting

The company that owns the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino and the Route 91 Harvest festival venue in Las Vegas has taken legal action against the victims of a 2017 mass shooting.

The owner of the Mandalay Bay hotel says it bears no liability in last year's Las Vegas concert massacre and is asking the courts to extend it federal protections that shield companies who provide anti-terrorism products and services to civilians.

MGM Resorts International, facing a barrage of lawsuits over the shooting, is not seeking monetary damages.

Crab Meat Warning In Effect As Infections Spread Across Four States

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are investigating a multi-state outbreak of a harmful bacteria which has been found in fresh, imported crab meat from Venezuela.

So far, there have been 12 confirmed cases of infection across four states: eight in Maryland, two in Louisiana, one in Pennsylvania and the District of Columbia. Four of those infected have been hospitalized.
