Festive meals often leave us feeling jolly but sluggish. So how do you enjoy the holidays without needing a post-lunch laydown? Perhaps a less carb-heavy meal! But that would take away from the fun of the holidays, so how can you get the best of both worlds?
Thankfully, we reached out to our expert in healthy, who is something of an expert when it comes to feeding the masses healthier dishes without sacrificing flavor. Our experts tell us to focus on these 3 things to ensure you have the best Thanksgiving meal that wont make you feel horrible afterwards.
- Learn your flavour pairings
Knowing your flavour pairings helps when entertaining and keeping it simple and healthy. A simple sliced tomato salad is easily made amazing with the addition of salt, good olive oil, an herb like chives, parsley, or basil, and a splash of good quality vinegar.
- Add complex carbs
A great way to make sure people are filling up without entering a food coma is to incorporate some complex carbohydrates. Roasted potatoes or sweet potatoes are great, but also adding beans, or grains to a salad or as a side dish. It's also an inexpensive way of cooking.
- Herbs are your best friend
Herbs are your best friend when making any meal taste great. Often when making healthier dishes, you don't have as much fat to add flavour, but fresh herbs, vinegar and lemon juice is the best way to elevate and make healthier food more delicious.
