Have you heard of sunset anxiety?
Redditors have posted about how they feel when the sun sets including: anxiety, panic, and a general sense of emptiness. Sunset anxiety isn't officially a diagnosis, but it is a common feeling. This tracks with results from new research suggests that night owls tend to experience anxiety worst in the evenings.
Why? According to Calm Clinic, causes can include:
- post-work stress
- not having a distractions like you normally do during the day
- feeling like you didn't do enough during the day, or productivity guilt, is another reason.
- worrying about the future, aka “anticipatory anxiety”
So what can you do?
- stay busy
- plan things to do that you enjoy after you get off work
- exercise after work
- or create a boring routine if staying busy isn't something you can do
