Playing with sand can help your mental health. You're probably thinking of sand castles or playgrounds, but actually it's a different sensory sand used in sand tray therapy. Clinical social worker and therapist Sabra Starnes told WTOP that sand tray therapy is a different way of getting in touch with your feelings. Starnes said quote:
“I use a nice smooth sand that, also for clients helps them feel calm, helps them to feel regulated.”
Sand Therapy is helpful with clients share a story they might not be comfortable saying with words, instead they are able to create a visual story that they may not be able to tell with words.
