iPhone users are loving a simple setting that could make your battery last way longer. If you've ever charged your phone for hours only to find it's on red just hours later, you'll know how frustrating it can be, especially if you're in a rush!
Lithium-ion batteries, which are the ones used in iPhones, degrade and age over time. So if you've had your phone for some time, the chances are its battery life isn't what it once was.
Apple explains that as lithium-ion batteries chemically age, the amount of charge they can hold diminishes, resulting in reduced battery life and reduced peak performance.
To preserve the life of iPhone batteries, Apple has introduced a new feature called 'optimized battery charging'.
Optimized Battery Charging is designed to reduce the wear on your battery and improve its lifespan by reducing the time your iPhone spends fully charged. When the feature is enabled, your iPhone will delay charging past 80% in certain situations.
Essentially, the '80% limit' is designed to keep your battery at 80 percent rather than continuously charging it to the max.
Optimized Battery Charging activates only when your iPhone predicts it will be connected to a charger for an extended period of time.
Now you may be concerned that your phone wont reach a fully charged state of 100% and Apple had this to say about that: "The algorithm aims to ensure that your iPhone is still fully charged when unplugged."
We think Apple has the right idea here, but do you think these measures would be enough to prevent having to change your iPhone's battery out due to battery degradation over time?
