Ginger Ale Might Not Be The Best Cure For An Upset Stomach

If you had an upset stomach when you were a kid, there was one home remedy that parents, grandparents and other caregivers seemed to recommend time and time again: ginger ale.

Is it a myth that way too many of us believed for too long? To clear the air, we got the facts, but first lets dig into the lore behind this myth!

Due to its relationship with ginger, ginger ale most likely gained popularity as a stomach fixer. Ginger root has been used historically as a natural treatment to treat a variety of gastrointestinal conditions, such as indigestion, diarrhea, and nausea.

But it’s important to note that these benefits are specifically associated with actual ginger root — not just the ginger flavoring found in many sodas.

The high sugar content in ginger ale and other sodas — usually over 30 grams per serving — can actually make stomach troubles worse.

Too much sugar could trigger inflammation and may increase bloating and gas, which could further irritate an upset stomach

It seems like the Ginger Ale remedy is all just a placebo effect at best!
