You might have been caught using the "crying eyes laughing" emoji instead of the "skull" emoji to laugh at something online, but now get ready to remove LOL from your vocabulary because IJBOL is the 2023 version of "laughing out loud."
The term 'IJBOL', pronounced as "eej-bowl", is an acronym that stands for "I just burst out laughing" and has become more popular in 2023 thanks to Gen-Z and social media platforms like TikTok. Apparently it's been around since 2009, but we just now decided to start using it more this year.
"IJBOL" took off again in 2021 thanks to K-pop fans and it only took two years before Intern John said it on the show most likely to you for the first time.
We can ALL agree that LMAO and LOL have been around for a little too long so just be prepared to have to explain what IJBOL means when hanging out with your older friends and family this year!
