If you have a trip planned to Europe you might need more than just your U.S. Passport to go.
The European Union is planning to requiring visa-like authorization starting January 2024. The process can be done online, according to the EU, and many travelers will get approval within minutes. However, some may have to wait up to 30 days for approval so it's important to apply early. It will cost about $8 and once you get authorization it will be valid for up to 3 years (or until the visitors passport expires.)
This program is in response to the visa applications people heading to the United States from Europe must apply for. Although this has been delayed twice, by November there should be more information as to whether the program will fully kick in.
