What to Do If You Don't Know How To Answer A Job Interview Question

You can prepare for an interview all you want, but sometimes there are questions that throw you for a loop? How do you answer them?

Huffington Post put together a list of tips to help you when you don't know how to answer.

  1. Whatever you do, don't lie. One of the biggest mistakes you can make in a job interview is lying. If you haven't been put in the situation they're asking about talk about how you would handle it.
  2. Don't Ramble and hope for the best. If you don't understand what they're asking, request clarification. One of the worst mistakes you can make is rambling when you don't know how to answer. Rambling shows you are a poor communicator and makes it seem like you're trying to cover up the fact that you have no idea what you're talking about.
  3. Don't Give up and just say "I don't know," either. Advocate for the person you are. It's ok to admit you don't have a certain skill or haven't faced a certain situation or problem yet. Don't give up and say "I don't know." Instead, experts say you should advocate for yourself and let them know you are willing and excited to learn

And don't forget: they're in the hot seat too!! You're interviewing the company just as much as they are interviewing you. How they answer or respond to you can show you their values, and give you a glimpse into what it's like working for them.
