Even though PRIDE month is technically over this year, it didn't stop the State Department from making a long-overdue update to passports and IDs by adding a third gender option when you apply for one.
Starting this month, you will be able to choose between "M", "F", or "X" as your gender on these federal identification documents and this third option can give transgender, non-binary, and intersex individuals the freedom to identify as gender-neutral or a gender-different from the one listed on their birth certificate.
As of right now there is no specific date as to when you can make the change, but it might be time to update your passport anyway since you're probably making up for all that travel you couldn't do last year because of the pandemic.
