Metro Is Narrowing Down Its Lost And Found Policy

You might want to start keeping better track of your possessions the next time you ride the metro because WMATA is narrowing down its lost and found policy.

Starting this week, WMATA will no longer hold on to any other items besides lost wallets and electronics like phones, laptops and tablets as a cost-saving measure. Any items that don't fall into that category will either be destroyed, donated or auctioned off.

The bright side of this is that if you do lose your wallet or phone that you'll be able to pick it up in-person at Metro's facility at 6505 Belcrest Road in Hyattsville, Maryland, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on weekdays.

Proper identification and face masks are required to pick up your item, but you can also have your lost possessions shipped to you instead if you're willing to cover shipping costs.

Property can be reported lost via an online form or by calling 202-962-1196 and Metro said in its updated policy that all items will be held for 30 days before disposal.
