Dating App Matches Singles Using Two-Minute Live Video Dates

The League, a dating app that requires LinkedIn verification to join, is starting its own version of speed dating next month. WithLeague Live, users can go on two-minute “video dates” within the app to get to see if they click with a potential match.

The app will pair people up based on their interests and location and then everyone will get three “dates” where they’re given an ice-breaker question to get the conversation started. Either of them can “heart” the other person any time during the call and if they both like each other, they’ll officially match. The idea is to give users just enough of a chat to see if they want to go on a real date in real life.

The League Live feature will be available to both free and paying users, but CEO Amanda Bradford says only users with a high “League Score” will have access. That score is based on factors like how often they log on, if they’ve been reported by other users, and how complete their profile is.

One good fee deserves another, of course – and the app may also try charging for the feature to allow users to pay to extend the date (as long as the other person accepts). And with these speed dates, you get that first-date out of the way and don’t have to worry if someone really looks like they do in their photos, all without having to leave home.
