“Monster-In-Law” Banned By Family For Trying To Pierce Granddaughter’s Ears

An anonymous mom recently asked Reddit for advice on how to deal with her “monster-in-law” who oversteps boundaries. She writes that she’s cut her mother-in-law out of her life after she went against her wishes and tried to have her daughter’s ears pierced.

“My MIL is a piece of work,” her post begins. “In short, she is a narcissistic, violent drunk who has abused all five of her husbands.” From there, the mom explains that her family only sees her mother-in-law once a year, but because she just had their third daughter, the MIL wanted to come for a visit. During the visit, her mother-in-law commented how none of her granddaughters’ ears are pierced, which she’s complained about in the past, but the parents said no to ear-piercing.

The next day, the MIL took the middle granddaughter shopping so mom could get some alone time with her newborn. But when they return, her sister-in-law reveals they took the little girl to a jewelry store and the mother-in-law tried to have her ears pierced. Thankfully, the store wouldn’t do it without a parent or legal guardian’s signature on the consent form.

The mom says her MIL was “so far over the line” and initially asked Redditors for advice, but then updated the post to say her husband handled the entire thing. She says he “ripped into” his mom and told her she was no longer welcome in their home and drove her to a hotel. She wraps up with, “If there’s no benefit to keeping someone in your life, it’s time to say goodbye.”
