Are you familiar with this new “love bombing” trend? It’s pretty similar to being ghosted, but it may be a bit worse.
Love bombing is when you start dating someone for a few months and they make you believe that you guys have a future together. They’re showering you with gifts, wining and dining you, and taking you on these amazing trips. THEN, everything comes to a screeching hault because things are moving “a little too fast” for them. At that point, you feel like a bomb just exploded in your lap.
So why in the heck would someone do this to someone they actually like?
- They’re narcissistic- Author Suzanne Degges-White explains, "They're known for their manipulation skills. They may use flattery and attention as tools to build themselves up as the perfect partner to gain your trust, affection—and, ultimately, adoration."
- They’re a sociopath- “Adults with sociopathic tendencies can be charming and sociable, but literally have no empathy, compassion, or concern for others,” says Dr. Karin Lawson.
- Blame it on the “honeymoon” phase- You ALWAYS like your date at first...until you realize that other men ALWAYS seem to know her. That’ll make you question af ew things.
- They’re just plain playas- He made you feel like the only one that had his heart, but he had a whole basketball team of lovers feelin’ the same way.
No matter why they’d love bomb you, it could make you ditch dating all together. Or you may become that bitter Betty every time someone brings up their happy relationship.
