The dating world is getting a little mean spirited, if new trends are to be believed. That means it’s time to acquaint yourself with some of the lousy stuff waiting around the corner. Here are the latest tactics to avoid.
- The newest trend is “paperclipping.” It gets its name from the annoying Clippy, a Microsoft virtual assistant that doesn’t know when to go away. Paperclipping is when an ex contacts you months after ghosting you.
- Reddit users decided to name the act of your boo slowing down communication with you to once every few days “trickle ghosting.” It’s a passive-aggressive approach to breaking up. Not cool!
- Then there’s cloaking. This is when you’re stood up for a date and then they block you on all fronts without a word.
- Pocketing is a sure sign to not expect a future. Your significant other builds a wall between you and their family with this move.
- Cookie Jarring is timeless, but at least has a name now. It’s when someone strings you along to keep you as a backup. You’re their snack.
- You-turning is a perfect name for this tactic: when you fall for someone too fast and quickly change your mind and escape. Generally a red flag causes this to happen.
- Flexing is the least harmless, but still annoying! It’s when you brag about your lavish lifestyle to the whole online community. By the way, don’t be surprised if a thief targets you at some point.
