Cost Of Living Is Delaying Residents From Having Kids In This NorCal City

When you start to think about settling down - maybe you just got married and you're starting to think about having a family OR you're still single and just ready to make some adjustments in your life - do you think about the cost of living in your city?

Obviously living here in Los Angeles, we know that different parts of town cost more money to live in, and we're also used to the idea that the cost of living is definitely higher than other cities in the country.

But has the cost of living in LA actually ever made you actually delay starting a family? Because a new study is saying that people in San Francisco are putting off having children for longer because of the high cost of living in the city.

Blind, an app that allows employees in the tech field to have anonymous chats about the workplace, conducted a survey that found 58 percent of tech workers in the San Francisco agreed that “the rising cost of living has forced me to delay starting a family.”

The survey included a total of 8,284 people, most of them employees at 14 tech companies.

People outside of the tech world likely believe that employees at some of the major companies such as Apple and Google wouldn't have to be concerned with the high cost of living, but a shocking 69% of employees at Apple who participated in the survey agreed that they have put off having children for this reason.

At other companies such as Google, Lyft, Cisco, eBay, Uber and Amazon, over 50% of the employees surveyed also disclosed that they put off starting their families due to cost.

Who can blame them? The average cost of owning a home in the Bay Area is over 4 times the national average! (Though, owning a home in Los Angeles is also over the national average.)

What would you choose? Starting a family and moving somewhere with a lower cost of living? Or putting it off until you are a little more established in your career?
