Michael Douglas Reveals When He Knew He’d Marry Wife Catherine Zeta-Jones

A true Hollywood legend — and couple! Michael Douglas phoned into On Air With Ryan Seacrest on Thursday, October 17, and recalled winning over now-wife of nearly 20 years Catherine Zeta-Jones. As the story goes, the duo met back in 1998 through pal Danny DeVito, but the Ant-Man actor himself knew immediately Jones was meant to be his wife.

The whole conversation started after Ryan realized Douglas and the Mask of Zorro icon share the same birthday.

“The same birthday,” Douglas mused. “It sounded like a wonderful idea when we first got together and now she hates it. She wants her own day. I’m 25 years older so I could care less, but she’s tired of having to share with me, I understand that.”

The actor then reminisced on when they first met.

"I found out that [we share the same birthday] the first night I met her and after she told me that and after she told me she loved golf, I told her, ‘I’m going to be the father of your children’ and then she said ‘Goodnight,’” he joked. “I did. I did,” Michael assured Ryan after he asked if this really happened. “I thought it was the proper thing to say, but maybe I was a little presumptuous.”

Not the slightest as the duo have since been happily married for the past 18 years and are now proud parents of Carys, 15, and Dylan, 18.

#RelationshipGoals aside, Michael’s career is also in full swing. The actor most recently reprised his role in Ant-Man and is starring alongside Alan Arkin in Netflix’s The Kominsky Method.

“It’s so cool, Ryan, I never anticipated — I’ve never done green screen in my life — and this Marvel world is a phenomenon,” he shared of character Dr. Hank Pym. “It far surpasses anything I’ve done in my career to have a movie that is so loved, revered worldwide is really, really special. Plus, to hold new acting experience on green screen and I had a ball so what’s not to like?”

Stream Netflix's The Kominsky Method now and catch Ant-Man and the Wasp out on DVD.
