There have been debates over which shower is better: hot or cold? But it might be neither...or both at the same time. Experts are weighing in on the benefits of "contrast" showers (also referred to as "contrast hydrotherapy").
A contrast shower is basically switching back and forth between hot and cold water. Dr. Nina Vasan, a psychiatrist said, quote, "Typically, it consists of multiple cycles of switching between hot and cold water and lasts anywhere from 5-10 minutes total.” But, you can do shorter increments and still get some benefits from these types of showers.
What are the benefits? Some people say they feel more energized and more focused. And cold water can boost your mood.
Although this is not backed by science, most agree that you should end on a cold shower.
