How to Detect a Fever Without a Thermometer

You are not feeling well but is it allergies? The flu? Coronavirus? A good indicator could be if you are running a fever because it can eliminate other issues. But what if you don't have a thermometer? Bustle shares a few ways to check your temperature if a thermometer is not in reach.

1. Use The Back Of Your Hand

Check to see if your forehead feels warmer than usual. Do not use the palm, as it is not as sensitive to temperature changes.

2. Check your Cheeks

Check to see if your cheeks appears to be redder than usual. A fever can cause the cheeks to become flushed or red.

3. How does your pee look?

If you are running a temperature, it is important to drink plenty of fluids. The elevated temperature increases metabolism, and you can quickly become dehydrated. If your pee is dark yellow, you need more fluids. Fever can also cause dryness of the mouth and thirst.

4. Ask Yourself (Or Those Around You) If Your Body Temperature Makes Sense

Maybe it is not just you. Ask those around you, "Is it hot in here?" or, "Is anyone else cold?" because it could be helpful for gauging whether or not you're sick.

5. Do the stairs test

Fevers can cause you to get exhausted, or to feel winded after doing something simple, like taking a jog, or going up a flight of stairs.

6. Have any aches and pains?

If you have aches and pains that don't correspond with any injuries, or a headache that's going alongside sweats or fatigue, you could be running a temperature.

7. Actually get a thermometer

If you're really concerned about whether or not you're running a fever, the only thing you can do to actually know is to get a thermometer.
