It was pretty windy across the DC/Baltimore region last night, with gale warnings being issued late. Those warnings came too late for the historic Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, MD.
As part of a multi-year renovation, the roof of the pavilion was being hydraulically lifted over the course of several months to a new height. The roof was almost in position when high winds ripped through the area, sending the roof crashing to the ground below.
Fortunately no one was hurt, and Merriweather Post Pavilion said in a statement that this will not affect the start of the 2018 season.
