Shocking news out of Hollywood as Nelsan Ellis, the actor who rose to fame portraying gay character Lafayette on HBO's True Blood, has passed away at the untimely age of 39.
According to Variety, he died of complications of heart failure.
Before acting, Ellis was raised in Alabama before moving back to Chicago in his teens. He joined the Marines for a short time followed by college at Illinois State University. His most recent role was in CBS' "Elementary".
An outpouring of sympathies have come from his True Blood co-stars and other friends in the entertainment industry.
