Are you looking for a home or starting to save money to buy that "starter home" in 2024? You might want to consider Zillow's new list of trends they think will be in-demand in 2024!
The real estate site analyzed nearly 300 home features and design elements mentioned in sales listing descriptions from this past year and identified the keywords that have appeared a lot more frequently than a year ago.
Here are some of the trends you can expect to see in more homes later this year into 2024:
- Brutalism - This design feature is “characterized by raw, exposed materials” and there’s been a 450% increase in listings mentioning brutalist design on Zillow. It includes blackened steel casement windows and raw concrete floors.
- Sensory gardens or pathways - Designed to engage all five senses, listings mentioning sensory gardens or pathways are up 314% from last year.
- Cold plunge pools - They’re a hot wellness trend for improving circulation and reducing inflammation and Zillow listings that feature cold plunge pools have increased 130% from a year ago.
- Pickleball courts - Across the U.S., pickleball mentions in listings are up 64% from last year and New York City has seen a 100% increase in the sales listings mentioning proximity to public or private pickleball courts.
- Murano glass chandeliers - These colorful, handcrafted pieces of art from Italy are a designer favorite and the lighting fixtures are being featured 58% more often in Zillow listings.
- Murals - Forget bland walls, eclectic, statement-making murals are very in and have been appearing 18% more often in homes for sale on Zillow.
