Chalk up another win for the state of Maryland because we just ranked as the third happiest state in the US according to a new study!

WalletHub has just come out with their latest report on the "Happiest States in America" and while Utah took the top spot in 2023, we have to give credit to Maryland for cracking the top five.

The study compared every state mainly based on three categories emotional and physical well-being, work environment, and community environment. Within those categories, the report compared every state's depression rate, income growth, and physical health index.

Oddly enough, West Virginia ranked 50th overall which according to this study means it's the most unhappy state in the US, but we'll let you be the judge of that! Here's where every other state (and our neighboring states) in the DMV ranked on the "happiness scale:"

  • Maryland - 3rd
  • Virginia - 14th
  • Pennsylvania - 25th
  • West Virginia - 50th
