Do you ever experience waking up right before you alarm goes off and can't decide if you should wake up or sleep more? You're not alone!
According to the National Institute of Health, 10% to 30% of the world’s population struggles with insomnia, which can include waking up in the middle of the night as well as the early morning and not being able to get back to sleep.
However, what should you do when you wake up a few minutes before your alarm? According to sleep experts, here's what you should do:
- Don’t watch the clock - When you wake up before you alarm, don't add up the number of minutes you have left before your alarm goes off. It adds anxiety and stress to those final minutes of sleep.
- Get out of bed - Even if it’s 3am and you alarm goes off at 3:05am, experts advise getting up and out of bed. This way sleep doesn't become something that takes effort for you to attain and you wake up when your body naturally does.
- Log what works and what doesn’t - Keep track of when you went to bed and woke up, as well as what happened that day to see if your body and brain both activated earlier than usual because you had a lot on your plate.
