Can you tell the difference between tortilla chips made by hand and chips that have been made by a robot? Turns out Chipotle is doing the hard research for all of us because they are testing a new AI that could help locations make chips for customers!
Earlier this week, Chipotle announced that it is testing an AI kitchen assistant called "Chippy" to replicate the flavor, texture, and crunch of the chain's tortilla chips with the "exact recipe" employees use when making the chips by hand.
The weird thing is that the AI will control a robot arm that will make the chips and the AI was taught how to make "imperfect" chips every so often to give them that "handmade feel" with either too much lime or too much salt that you can sometimes have.
Chippy is currently being tested at the Chipotle Cultivate Center in Irvine, California and if tests prove to be a success, then it might be rolled out to locations nationwide.
You can see what Chippy would look like in a kitchen below, but we're one step closer to the future y'all!
