I got to see Shang-Chi a few days early and my goodness was it good!!
Not only is this Simu Liu's first major film role, but he absolutely nailed it throughout the entire film and I can't wait to see him pop up in future MCU projects.
Here are some of my initial, SPOILER-FREE, thoughts on the film and what stood out to me:
- There are TWO end credit scenes so make sure you stick around! Plus Anderson Paak sings during the cool credits and it's a vibe!
- The film does a great job of explaining the entire world of the Ten Rings, Shang-Chi, and connecting it to other MCU movies
- There's an appearance by a returning character in the MCU that was the comedic relief of this film and he wasn't overdone
- Awkwafina is actually a highlight of the film as the "realistic human" in this wuxia (film involving the adventures of a martial artist) and she wasn't too much in the film either
- I actually loved the villain played by Tony Leung and he might rank up among Killmonger and Loki as great MCU villains

I'm giving Shang-Chi 8.8 out of 10 rings because I really dug everything in the film and despite a slow middle section, the film might one of the best origin stories in the MCU! Shang-Chi will be in theaters starting on September 3rd!
