I got to see Sonic The Hedgehog early and it was SURPRISINGLY pretty good! While it is still a movie made primarily for kids, it has a little bit of everything no matter where you fall on how big your Sonic fandom is!
Ben Schwartz as Sonic and Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik was perfect casting and they are hilarious throughout the entire movie. Jim Carrey is actually back in PEAK FORM from his Ace Ventura days, so you can see the movie just for him alone.
Here are some of my initial, SPOILER-FREE, thoughts on the film and what stood out to me:
- They make a ton of jokes on Sonic culture (the memes, chili dogs, etc.)
- There IS a Mid-Credits scene that sets up a sequel!!
- If you loved the Quicksilver scenes from the X-Men movies then you'll love this movie
- Didn't really need James Marsden or any of the other human characters, but they did flesh out the movie

I'm giving Sonic The Hedgehog 7.6 out of 10 gold rings and hopefully we do get a sequel based off that end-credits scene! Sonic The Hedgehog is in theaters starting on February 14th!
